Trusses

Trusses were delivered Thursday. The guys were moving so quickly! Then, they found out the truss company did not give proper instruction and each one had to be moved! Luckily they stayed motivated and kept going. We even had a few guys show up on Saturday.

 by the end of Thursday.

Had to add..

I have to add these photos from the 13th. Parker knows his Dad is a pretty cool Dude. He has to do everything just like Dad and follows him around everywhere. It melts my heart!

This was just too cute, Dustin kicked the pipe and so Parker had to do it a few times too!

 Following in Dad's footsteps.

The plan for the floor plan..

I have a passion for Craftsman style homes. I love the lodgy, beachy, and modern direction they can take. I love the textures, warmth, details and simple clean lines. The challenge has been incorporating this style into a subdivision full of stucco homes set in the southern Utah desert.

We want a home that is unlike any one else's home. We want it to be our home. I feel like this will be just that. It will still fit right in the neighborhood. We have a casual eclectic style that incorporates modern fixtures and hardware with timeless patterns and classic architectural features.

I am wanting to simplify our life and get rid of so much of the clutter. We adapted our home's plan from another home in St. George. We walked through it and saw so much wasted square footage. (ex. it had 6 foot wide halls, we cut ours down to 4) We determined a long time ago that we wanted to maintain a low mortgage payment, build within our means, and maximize every square inch.

We worked with Jeff Andrew's of Jeff Andrew's Design in St. George, Utah. We made lots of changes and adjustments along the way. One, was the placement and sizes of the windows. After we positioned our house on the lot we went back and made changes to get the most of our surrounding views. I noticed as I posted the photo was we added a second window in the dining room. It's "the money shot" we call it that because it has the view of the Steamboat which is the west side of Zion.

Please don't judge my messy "coloring" of the exterior. Also, it is not the exact color, it just gives you an idea of where the home is going. I'm working on the post that will show the color samples. The exterior color will be a sage green. It's going to look great with all of the natural sage brush surrounding the home.

Framing

Wednesday February 12th the lumber was delivered. Thursday morning at 7:30 am the framer's were on site snapping lines.

By the time we drove by on our way out of town at 11am there were walls standing!

We left for a nice little get away vacation to Denver, CO which is something Dustin and I have talked about doing since high school. It was perfect timing to leave, there wasn't anything we could do on the house and it was so exciting to be surprised by a house sitting on the slab when we got home on Sunday.

We highly recommend this team of framers, J.W. Horsley of Horsley Brother's Construction! They have been great to work with. They had this done in 1 1/2 days, left the site clean, answer and return calls promptly and are extremely professional.

We got lots of picture updates from family and friends and a big shout out to George Rodinos for all the beautiful photos below!

February 11, 2014

Parker and I have been running around all of St. George for the last two days. We got the windows, exterior doors, roof tile, lumber, and trusses ordered. It has been pretty crazy being a "contractor" but it is challenging, exciting and I love that I get to design this home from the ground up. We stopped by the lot today and I took a few photos of the slab. It looks great!

A peek at the plans.. I'm working on a post that will show you the plans!

The cutest picture of my boys ever

This picture is so precious.

The Big Pour

Saturday February 8th 2014 - We carefully and anxiously watched the weather all week. There was a chance of rain and we had to call in a lot of favor's from friends to get the slab poured. At 7:10 am the mixer truck showed up. The kids and I were at home making homemade egg mcmuffins, hashbrowns, and hot coffee for all of the helpers. We missed the beginning but we got there in time to see a lot of work being done.

A huge Thank you to all of our help that day! As I pulled up to the lot, I got emotional seeing all of the guys there on their day off, early Saturday morning. These guys took the time and worked so very hard to give our home a solid foundation

A big shout out to: James Stout, Chris Downard, Zach Sullivan, Tyson Sullivan, Chad Gibson, Bob Clark, Brandon Young, Summer Downard, and Cora Downard for everything they did to help!

Told you Chad was happy!

Looks like we are camping!

February 4, 2014

Today Dustin backfilled utility trenches and when I stopped by this afternoon his Dad was there helping him. It is cold and windy today and I am feeling so blessed to have such a hard working husband who has been at the lot every night until dark. It truly feels like a barn raising with all of the friends and family that have already put in so much time.

I've been working on collecting bids, working with the suppliers, contractors and getting everything lined out. My other job is making breakfast, lunch, and dinner and keeping all of the guys fed.

I'll be working on a post that show's the fun part. The details that I have churning in my mind.
